LINEUP: Lenore Raphael (US) (piano), Wayne Wilkinson (US) (guitar), Chris Hodgkins (UK)(trumpet), Alison Rayner (UK) (double bass)
Lenore Raphael (US) , is an internationally renowned jazz Pianist, and Steinway artist, radio host and jazz teacher, has been critically acclaimed as one of the best pianists in the jazz mainstream today. She was one of three featured internationally renowned Steinway pianists including Ahmad Jamal and Abdullah Ibraham, at the Joy Of Jazz (www.joyofjazz.co.za) Festival, Cape Town, SA.
Lenore is joined in the UK by her amazing guitarist Wayne Wilkinson, backed also by Chris Hodgkins on trumpet and Alison Rayner on bass. This is the start of their first UK tour finishing off at the 2017 EFG London Jazz Festival on Nov 11, and with the launch of their latest CD release.
This is an absolute first and an absolute must! – two top New York jazz musicians Lenore Raphael and Wayne Wilkinson. Despite long links with Lenore, her visits to UK have never included Brecon … until now. Thanks to Chris Hodgkins (trumpeter and formerly Director of Jazz Services) and top bassist Alison Rayner (whose own quintet played to a packed jazz club in June), Lenore is bringing her brilliant US guitarist Wayne Wilkinson along to play this premier concert at Brecon Jazz Club. In addition to performing, Lenore is jazz director of NYC West 64th Street jazz at Ethical Culture Society and in North Carolina at the Halle Cultural Arts Center in Apex, NC.
Quotes: “Lenore is the best jazz/swing pianist in the world today, in my opinion. I’ve been a jazz/swing broadcaster for more than 40 years now. Her master classes are awesome too”.. Henry Holloway, Cape Town, SA
“This blond Ambassador of Steinway will musically knock your socks off”…Brian Hough, JassMan Magazine.
Wayne Wilkinson is also a headline guitarist, playing high octane straight ahead style, traditional classics from the great American songbook, innovative bebop jazz and original compositions. “One hell of a guitar player” – Johnny Smith, legendary jazz guitarist.
